Wall Street rallies within 0.4% of its record after oil prices and bond yields ease

The S&P 500 rose 1.5% to within 0.4% of its record set last month, and the Nasdaq composite jumped 2.3% to an all-time high as chip stocks and other AI-related companies led. Advanced Micro Devices gained 9.9% as its market value reached $1 trillion, Warner Bros. Discovery rose 10.8% on a settlement of lawsuits over the Paramount buyout, and Nvidia added 2.3%. AP

U.S. crude oil tumbles back below $100 after Trump says he's open to talking to Iran at UN

West Texas Intermediate futures fell 4.5% to close at $95.78 a barrel, and Brent lost 3.4% to settle at $100.34 after a session low of $98.98. President Trump told Fox News on Sunday that he would probably be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the UN General Assembly this week. Flows through the Strait of Hormuz have risen to about 80% of pre-war levels, and oil is on a four-day losing streak as the market treats the closure of Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline as less disruptive than first feared. Arm Surges 13% as Meta's Muse Agent Reignites CPU Demand Bet; Intel Jumps 12%, AMD Climbs 9%

Meta's Muse consumer AI agent reached the top of the App Store in ten days, and the article argues that autonomous agents sharply raise inference demand, which requires CPUs alongside accelerators. Arm rose 13%, Intel 12% and AMD 9%, and the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) gained 3%. The article notes that no company announcement from Arm, Intel or AMD accompanied the session, so the repricing rests on the application's reception rather than booked orders. 24/7 Wall St.

Warner Bros. Discovery Jumps 7%, Paramount Skydance Climbs 5% as Antitrust Settlement Talks Advance; Netflix Sits Out the Rally

Under the terms under discussion, Paramount Skydance would pay $30 million for each film it falls short of a commitment to distribute at least 30 movies in theaters each year, according to Financial Times and Bloomberg reporting cited by the article. Attorneys general in a dozen states continue to challenge the combination, which has been blocked since July, and the outside closing date has been pushed into next year. 24/7 Wall St.

The forward look
TR:C thesis
Despite some slight flattening of the yield curve today, indices edged up a generous amount with a relatively quiet week data release wise ahead. However, Trump meeting with Xi Jinping is something the market will price in later this week and next week. Lightening (on Trump's side) regarding tarrifs would likely price in a good reaction. Gold remains to look weaker as the U.S. dollar remained relatively flat. Regarding our last mentions of a 'hike cycle,' many big names (Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Barclays, etc.) only are seeing one more 25 bp rate hike this year.
