TR:C thesis
The Dow-Nasdaq split today captures where risk is being repriced: oil-sensitive and rate-sensitive names lagged as Brent settled below $100 for the first time since the Saudi pipeline disruption, while the AI-driven chip complex kept bidding, extending gains from Rosenblatt's bullish SanDisk call and lifting the broader memory-chip trade. The diplomatic signal out of the UN, Trump's characterization of a likely US-Iran deal after the midterm elections and reports the Strait of Hormuz could reopen within a week, is doing real work on the tape; a confirmed reopening would remove the single largest geopolitical premium still priced into crude. The curve continued to bull-flatten, with the 2-year down 5bp against an unchanged 10-year, even as today's $69bn 2-year auction drew in-line demand. Two more coupon auctions test that demand this week (5-year Wednesday, 7-year Thursday), alongside a moderately busy Fed speaker calendar (Jefferson today, Barr Wednesday) ahead of Friday's durable goods print and month-end PCE on September 30, the next major inflation read. Also note gold jumped after hours to become positive.
