The Dow fell 0.31% (161.61 points) to 51,349.98, the S&P 500 slipped 0.02% to 7,704.13 and the Nasdaq rose 0.01% to 26,939.37. Fed's Williams says it is reasonable to see another US rate hike this year

New York Fed President John Williams said, “It’s likely that another rate hike may be appropriate by the end of the year. That seems to me a reasonable way of thinking about it,” adding, “We have to see. We’re going to collect the data and do what we did between July and September.” Sixteen of 18 policymakers signaled support for at least one more hike before year-end. Reuters

Oracle invokes force majeure on New Mexico AI data center

Oracle sent a force majeure notice to Blue Owl Capital, the developer of Project Jupiter, which would let it delay payments if the data center fails to launch as scheduled; the stock fell 4%. TR:C thesis
Rates and oil set the tone again. The 10-year Treasury yield closed at 5.18%, up 7bp, and the 30-year at 5.47%, up 7bp, as New York Fed President Williams called another hike by year-end “a reasonable way of thinking about it” and, per Reuters, futures markets show strong odds for October and December increases; exact odds vary by source. The 5-year closed at 5.03%, up 4bp, while the 2-year rose 2bp to 4.87%, so the move was concentrated in the intermediate and long end. Equity indices were little changed, the S&P 500 (-0.02%) and Nasdaq (+0.01%) cushioned by Communication Services (+1.27%) and Health Care (+0.63%) while the Dow (-0.31%) lagged. November Brent settled at $107.52, up 4.31% from Wednesday’s $103.08, the VIX rose 3.23% to 15.67, the dollar index firmed 0.15% to 101.26 and gold fell 0.46% to $4,298. Friday’s durable goods orders open a data run that includes JOLTS and Conference Board confidence on September 29, the GDP third estimate and August personal income and outlays (PCE) on September 30, and September payrolls on October 2.
